PRIORITIES!! PRIORITIES!! PRIORITIES!!
I believe that marriage is a religious commitment between a man and a woman. BUT I think it shameful that our Senate wastes time debating a ridiculous and unfair amendment to our Constitution when so many more pressing matters are facing our country. Millions of illegal aliens are entering our country, through borders that are as porous as a sieve. We must secure our borders now. Even members of the Democratic Party, whom I usually support, want to pass legislation that lures more illegals by promising them the possibility of eventual citizenship. Don’t they realize that the influx of illegal aliens depresses job wages for middle class Americans? Wages are going down and many Americans have been forced to take pay cuts. Don’t they realize that the money spent on health care for these immigrants leaves less for the growing number of our middle class workers who are without insurance? Less money is available for the education of our own citizens when we have the need to educate the children of illegal immigrants. Law enforcement is also under pressure.
Congress wants to debate the question of flag burning. I do not think anyone should burn the American Flag, the symbol of our country. But isn’t the question of health care, and the high cost of medications deserving of a higher priority? For years I enjoyed an excellent Drug Plan offered by my Union. But now the Union put all retirees, over 65 years of age into the disastrous Medicare Part D. The cost of one of my medications increased 500 per cent. And when I reach the infamous “doughnut hole” the cost will be significantly higher. Medicare Part D seems designed to afford even greater profits to the drug companies.
More jobs are being outsourced overseas. The national debt has reached an amount so high that I cannot comprehend it. Yet Congress is ready to reduce the taxes on the wealthy even more by eliminating or reducing the Estate Tax. Almost 2500 of our finest soldiers have been killed in a war in Iraq with no end in sight. With an election coming, many voting machines are supplied and tallied by a Venezuelan company-with no way to verify the results. What are our priorities? What is the Congress doing about them?
